The Blue Angels Take Over Vero Beach

The United States Navy Blue Angels turned the skies over Vero Beach into pure theater. Six F/A-18 Super Hornets flew diamond formations so tight they had to be seen to be believed. High-speed passes rattled chests in the crowd, and maneuvers sent jaws dropping across the tarmac.

The diamond formation rolled out to demonstrate the raw power of the General Electric F414 engines, as the captain called for afterburner selection from all four diamond pilots simultaneously. Eight engines. 168,000 pounds of thrust. You don't just hear it — you feel it.

The Super Hornet's flight controls showcased the aircraft's remarkable slow-speed handling, the same capability that sets it apart in real-world air combat. Then came the delta aileron roll: on Captain Bryan's command, all six pilots rolled their aircraft 360 degrees at 400 mph, passing directly over show center in perfect unison.
